Taco Tuesday Time Trial
Inspired by tacos
They showed up in force,
Those mighty gO! runners
were ready (of course).
It was time trial night
At the RHS track,
and these athletes were willing
It was no time to slack.
After words of advice
And their warm-ups did end,
They stepped up to the start
“Let the mile begin.”
And off they were running
Like a thoroughbred race,
Jockeying for position
Adjusting their pace.
And as they got settled
and their hearts did amend,
The breathing got rhythmic
They flowed through the wind.
Lean legs showed the power
of the strength they’d achieved,
With affirmative looks
You could see they believed.
And after each circuit
Their confidence grew,
You could see the intensity
You could tell that they knew.
The stopwatch kept ticking
As the seconds clicked by,
But time lost advantage
‘Cuz these runners could fly.
Just to circle this oval
With such powerful grace,
Was more like performance
And less like a race.
When each one did finish
They turned back to cheer,
Inspiring others
It’s so nice to be here.
And then the gO! coaches
served tacos galore,
People milled around chatting
It was all we hoped for.
So the best part tonight
Was not ever their miles,
But the many kind words
and appreciative smiles.
For a gO! runner knows
As the day comes to end,
The one standing near you
Is truly a friend.
